
Meta founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has announced the expansion of the collaboration of the company with the Central Board of Secondary Education in India under which it will be training 10 lakh teachers and double the number of students in virtual and augmented reality in the coming three years.
According to reports, Meta will be providing a curriculum on digital safety and online well-being, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality as part of their partnership which will also be available on the official website of CBSE.
Meta to invest in Education and commerce
When speaking at the Fuel for India 2021 event, Zuckerberg stated that the partnership with the CBSE was an opportunity to invest in Entrepreneurial spirit and bring some of those tools around the metaverse and training to the education system in the country. He stated that Meta is investing in other growing areas including Education and Commerce through the Unacademy and Meesho platforms which are important considering the future being built. He also stated that Meta plans to continue to partner in all areas as it is helping in the development of fundamental technologies, social platforms and creative tools which are necessary to bring the metaverse to life.
Fuel India 2021
The Fuel for India event was also attended by Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology - Rajeev Chandrashekar, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook India Managing Director Ajit Mohan, Chief Business Officer at Meta - Marne Levine, and Akash and Isha Ambani - Directors of Jio Platform.
The Minister in his chat with Ajit Mohan stated that the government wants to make sure that the internet remains open, safe, and a trusted platform. He further stated that he would like the internet to be a force of good and deliver access, equity, and opportunity along with being careful about ensuring that the internet remains a free and open space considering competitive pressures and not dominated by big corporations.
