The Nagpur University released the notification for extending the deadline of admission to September 25 for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Yesterday, late in the evening, the Nagpur University released the notification for extending the deadline of admission to September 25 for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Although the decision was made earlier this week on Monday due to the plea by students who cleared their backlog papers in the revaluation, another day was wasted in preparing the notification. Students from Bhandara, Gondia, Wardha, and Kamptee, besides city-based colleges, had again visited the NU main building after their institutions told them that there were no official instructions. The aggrieved students were seen standing outside the main administrative building throughout the day.

The authorities told the students that the notification would be soon forwarded to colleges. At various colleges in the city, students have turned away because of the same reason. Even after formalities late in the evening, the NU has not clarified how the PG admissions would be done. This year, the PG admissions have been conducted online through centralized process. No directives have been given in the notification for late admissions, excluding those done by various authorities.

The undertaking by the principals from the university-affiliated colleges is another standing in the students’ way. As per NU’s notification, the university has asked of an undertaking in addition to the admission form, from the principals. Wanting the colleges to ensure that the students get the 90-day compulsory coaching, NU has also submitted an affidavit in the high court, stating that it will be going to comply with the 180-day teaching period during the entirety of the course, as per University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.

The classes for the odd semesters has already been started, with the session beginning on June 15. As per the latest update, the colleges will need to hold extra classes after Diwali for the newer lot of student as there’s only 45 days teaching left as per the schedule for this semester. Neeraj Khaty, Acting Registrar of the university, stated that the university will not accept new forms if the colleges fail to submit the undertaking.

NU college section officials said they need to seek pro-vice-chancellor Pramod Yeole’s permission to initiate the process. Yeole was out of town and therefore, the college section is yet to decide on the mode of admission. This oversight is likely to cause further distress to aggrieved students who have been running from pillar to post since the beginning of this month.
