
PM Modi announces scheme for Children Orphaned due to COVID-19: Coming to aid of children who are deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced special scheme provisioning free education and health insurance for all the Children Orphaned due to COVID-19. These benefits to the Children Orphaned due to COVID-19 would be given through PM CARES fund. While announcing the scheme, PM Modi said that children represent the future of the country, and the Government will do everything to support and protect the children.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to announce this special scheme and benefits for Children orphaned due to COVID-19. In a tweet sent out from his official account, PM Modi noted that “Supporting our nation’s future! Several children lost their parents due to COVID 19. The Government will care for them; ensure a life of dignity & opportunity for them. PM cares for children will ensure education & other assistance to children.”
Key Benefits Announced by PM for COVID-19 affected Children
As per the official announcement, a series of benefits and welfare measures have been announced by the Central Government for the benefit of the children. The key among them are listed below:
- Admission to Kendriya Vidhyalaya: Children who have lost their parents and are under the age of 10 years, will be given admission to nearest Kendriya Vidhyalaya or in a private school as a day scholar
- All Expenses via PM CARES: All expenses incurred for education of such children, including expenditure on the uniform, textbooks and notebooks, will be paid for via PM CARES fund.
- Admission to Sainik School / Navodaya Vidhyalaya: All children above the age of 10 years would be provided admission to Sainik School / Navodaya Vidhyalaya as residential scholar.
- Financial Assistance: Children who are orphaned due to COVID-19 would be given a monthly scholarship once they turn 18 and a fund of Rs 10 lakh when they turn 23.
- Education Loan: Children would also be eligible to get Education Loans to fund their higher-education and interest for such loans would be paid via PM CARES fund.
- Free Health Insurance: All such children would be provided free health insurance worth Rs 5 lakhs under Ayushman Bharat until the age of 18 years. Premium for this health insurance will be paid via PM CARES fund.
