UIET PU Placement: University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) of Punjab University placement in the branches of biotech and mechanical engineering has gone to as low as 30% in the recent years. Less than 30% of the students get placement in campus placement drives in biotech and mechanical engineering streams. The campus placement in the streams of computer science, engineering and IT are very low.

The years that are in consideration are 2017, 2018 and 2019 when the campus placement were low in quantum. Nearly 150 students appeared in the campus placement in the biotech stream and the number of students who get placed is low. Around 25 students get placed in the campus placement drive. On the other hand, the students in the mechanical engineering branch, who took part in the campus placement, were around 200. Out of these, around 60 students were placed.

The lower placement figure is a worrying sign for the students and the UIET both. If the number of students placed from campus placement remains low then it is not meeting the expectations of standard education. The poor placement is because of ignorance of the Training and Placement Cell (TPC), said one of the students. The TPC is not inviting more number of companies in the campus and it is therefore the placement gets to a lower figure. The TPC needs to be more active in bringing core companies of the related branch to campus so that the placement figure can be raised.

On the other hand, the officials from UIET said that the number of jobs in these sectors are less in India and only few companies are operating in the country. So, it has become difficult to place a major number of the students. UIET was started in 2002 by the PU and it is the largest department in PU. The department has six UG and eight PG programmes. Admission in UIET is given on the basis of JEE rankings.
