Knowledge Upgradation Centres for Skilled Human Action and Learning Action (KUSHAL), a developmental project of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD)has placed Coimbatore and Pune at the first positions.
The centres would come up in a year and would coordinate with the entire skill development efforts of Higher Education Institutions in the states. Presently, the guidelines are being framed of the programme which is fully funded by the Ministry. Adding a mere degree would not solve many problems for job starving nation like ours and thus we need to create more and more skilled professionals to come into the field of jobs. There is a need for good skill-based courses and institutions that can offer the same to the youth.
During the 24th Graduation Day of SNR Sons College, H. Devaraj, Vice Chairman of UGC said, “UGC has already come out with the Faculty Recharge Programme, which was aimed to induct exceptional candidates, with notable record of research in international/frontier area of skill, who will spearhead internationally competitive research programme along with their teaching responsibility.”
With a grant of almost Rs. 2 crore, UGC has come up with three-year Bachelor Degree in Vocational training which would help students acquire hands-on training and experience of working while they learn. It is also giving funds to initiate a course under Community College Programme, which is mentioned under the 12th Plan, to curb the problem of unemployment and saturation of the job opportunities.
