Following the trend set by the other top B-schools of the country, IIM Kozhikode has also completed their summer placements 2018. Taking advantage of the positive sentiment among the recruiters, IIM K managed to complete their summer placement session for this year within the record time of 4 days, beating their earlier record of 6 and a half days. The placement reports and statistics from top B-schools of the country are often termed as the benchmark when it comes to analysing management as a career option. So, let’s dwell deeper into the IIM-K summer placement reports and decode what it has in store for us.
The first key takeaway from this year’s IIM Kozhikode Summer Placement report is the positive statistics from the report that reflect the general health of MBA as a career option in the market. During the summer placements, IIM-Kozhikode students managed to bag 25% hike in the average stipend which translates to an average stipend package of Rs 1.4 Lakh for the students.
Leading the way, 9 students managed to win highest stipend package or Rs 3 Lakh for two month internship from the B-school. Apart from this, nearly 100 students also bagged average package of Rs 2.24 lakhs.
Coming to the student participation, from the current batch a total of 375 students had sought placement assistance from the institute. 16 students had chosen to opt out of the placement programme. Of the 375 students which participated in the summer placements 2018 the institute managed to secure 100% placements within only 4 days.
Total of nearly 90 recruiters extended 359 offers, which also include several international internship options for the students in different domains and different locations. Like every year, top brands and companies from different domains visited the campus for the summer placement drive. Among the recruiters; Goldman Sachs, Fidelity Investments, Deloitte Strategy & Operations, and Amazon emerged at the top 61 offers in total. 35 new recruiters had also joined the IIM Kozhikode Summer Placement Drive which included top names such as Kotak Wealth Management, Abbott, Amazon, Bajaj Auto, Procter & Gamble, Cipla and United Health Group.
Domain wise break-up
In terms of domain-wise breakup of the summer placement offers, sales and marketing emerged as the top dog extending 35% of the total internship roles to the students. The top brands such as HUL, Colgate-Palmolive, ITC, Asian Paints, Marico and L’Oreal extended internship offers in sales and marketing profile to the students.
The second domain to dominate the placement session at IIM Kozhikode was Banking and Finance. Financial majors such as Axis Bank, American Express, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank offered roles to the students. The roles included a diverse mix ranging from corporate finance to investment banking, global investment research to risk advisory services, and even corporate treasury profiles. Nearly 20% of the students from the current batch of the B-school received offers in Banking and Finance sector.
The third major domain which saw a lot of offers being made by companies was consulting. Nearly 10% of the batch received offers in the internship profiles for consulting roles. The offers came from consulting giants such as Gartner Consulting, EY and Boston Consulting Group.
The general management domain also saw offers being extended by known brands such as Mahindra, Aditya Biral Group, TAS, Reliance, and RPG.
The summer placements at IIM Kozhikode and the numbers reflected in report suggest the positive mind set of the recruiters when it comes to hiring MBA graduates in India. The rise in the average stipend remuneration also suggests that the trust and the bond shared by recruiters with top MBA colleges in India is still very much intact and is growing further.
