Among various posts recruited under SSC CGL exam most sought after job is IT Inspector and among many bank jobs like clerks, PO’s, etc. most preferred job is SBI PO. Both these exams are among the biggest contributors in generating employment opportunities in India. There are various reasons like the security of the job, benefits, facilities, social status, etc. to go for these jobs by job seekers. In this article we will compare IT Inspector recruited through SSC CGL and SBI PO.

Recruitment body: Income Tax Inspectors appointed through SSC CGL and the PO’s are recruited through the separate exam conducted by SBI board.

The Job Profile: An IT Inspector  recruited through SSC CGL expected to fulfill duties like make notes and do filing work, do general administration work, do field Jobs that involve travelling, carry out raids, inspections, surveillance etc. and  help in shaping and implementation of National policies by looking after the back office work. whereas in the SBI PO Job, one is expected to provide services to customers, handle cash activities at the bank, enhance business of the bank, manage clearance of payments, official communication etc.

Salary and Emoluments: The salary of the SBI bank POs made equal to the salaries of Central Government Group officers from 2014 as per 10th Bipartite Agreement. This means around 40,000-50,000 will be the new salary of all the Bank POs per month, which is rather more than that of SSC CGL.  The salary of IT Inspector was revised according to 7thPay commission and presently it is little more than Bank PO’s. There is not much disparity between the two in terms of the salary.

Perks and Benefits: The IT Inspector has various benefits like dearness allowance, LTC, house rent allowance, group medical claim, medical benefit, transport allowance, pension scheme etc. while the SBI PO has benefits like contribution to pension scheme, medical aid for self as well as to the family, leave travel concession, concessional interest rates for housing/car/personal loans.

Work Pressure: All jobs in SSC CGL including IT Inspector is more relaxed and offer good working conditions with balancing family and social life. Sometimes, SSC CGL jobs can also be very demanding if you are working under political pressure every day. SBI PO’s work includes General Banking, Administrative tasks and any other task allocated by the senior management. In Bank PO, you will undergo rigorous training to understand the practical details of Banking. You get training for accounting, marketing, investment, billing, finance, human resources, agriculture banking, and general banking. From work pressure point of view, both the jobs are nearly the same with more work pressure tilted to SBI PO and the important differentiating factor is customer interaction.

Transfers: Both IT Inspector and SBI PO are government jobs and because of this transfers are necessary. In SSC, the transfers mostly take place every 4-5 years (except in CSS jobs where you will always be posted in Delhi). In SBI, the transfers mostly take place every 2-5 years. In these jobs, a transfer is on the basis of seniority.
