An investment of Rs 10,371.92 crore has been approved by the Union Government recently for the purpose of strengthening AI innovation in the country. This move is hopefully going to put the country at the forefront of innovations in the realm of artificial intelligence. Yes, this huge investment will be made for the national-level mission titled India Artificial Intelligence (AI). The mission blends well with the vision of "Making AI work for India" and "Making AI in India" by means of setting up a comprehensive ecosystem.
Through this mission, the country will be catalyzing artificial intelligence innovation via strategic partnerships and programs across the private and public sectors in the country.
Understanding the India AI mission better
It is the Independent Business Division that will be implementing the India AI mission. The India AI mission will be implemented under the Digital India Corporation (DIC). There are several components of the mission, like, the IndiaAI Innovation Centre, IndiaAI Compute Capacity, IndiaAI Future Skills, IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, and IndiaAI Datasets Platform. As per Piyush Goyal, the union commerce and industry minister, the AI mission framework of India has actually been developed through a comprehensive approach to building an AI ecosystem. The vision incorporates scaling up artificial intelligence adoption and offering more opportunities for innovators. It also includes fostering skill development in this arena.
The mission to create LMMs
According to the reports, the IndiaAI Innovation Centre is about to kickstart the development of Large Multimodal Models along with domain-specific foundational models in various sectors.
Moreover, the IndiaAI Application Development Initiative will be encouraging AI applications in critical sectors, catering to problem statements coming from central ministries, and state departments with the intent to develop, scale, and encourage the adoption of artificial intelligence solutions across various sectors. The focus would be on catalyzing widespread socio-economic transformation.
