What will be Pattern for CBSE Board’s Term 1 Exam?

To shed some light on the changes in CBSE Board Exam 2022 exam pattern and style, Mr Joseph Emmanuel, Director (Academic) has issued a statement saying "The exams will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) including case-based MCQs and MCQs on the assertion-reasoning type. The duration of test will be 90 minutes and it will cover only the rationalised syllabus of the first term. The question papers will be sent by the CBSE to schools along with the marking scheme.”

To add to this, students should note that CBSE’s Term 1 and Term 2 Exams will be held under the supervision of the external center superintendents and observers appointed by CBSE. Moreover, being an MCQ type test, the responses or answers of students will be marked on OMR sheets which, after scanning may be directly uploaded at the CBSE portal. Alternatively, schools will also have the option to evaluate the OMR sheets and upload marks of students on the portal instead.

What will be Pattern for CBSE Board’s Term 2 Exam?

The second term exam as part of CBSE Board Exam 2022 will be held March-April 2022. This exam will be held on similar lines as the annual board exams being held right now. The exam would be organized at independent exam centres other than the schools from where students are registered and will be allotted to the students by the Board.

In terms of exam pattern, the duration of the Term 2 Exam will be 2 Hours in which students will have to answer both objective as well as subjective type questions. The type of questions being asked in CBSE Board Term 2 Exam will include case-based/ situation based questions, open ended- short answer and long answer type questions.

Keeping in mind the pandemic situation, the Board has also planned any exigencies and made provision for a 90-minute MCQ-based exam, which can be conducted as Term 2 Exam. However, this option will be made available only if the prevailing situation is not conducive to hold descriptive exam as explained earlier.

How will CBSE Board Result 2022 be Calculated?

The special assessment scheme announced by the CBSE Board is tailored to cover exigencies that the pandemic has presented during the last two years, forcing school closures and exam cancellations. To overcome these problems, the Board has announced two exam policy, which will be held on the basis of bifurcated syllabus. The detailed case / situation wise policy for CBSE Board Exam 2022 is explained below:

If there is No Interruption due to the Pandemic: In case the impact of the pandemic reduces drastically leading to reopening of schools for offline classes, then the overall syllabus will be bifurcated into two and Term 1 and Term 2 exams will be held as per regular policy.

If the Pandemic Affects Term 1 Exam: In case the COVID-19 pandemic affects the first half of the academic year, disrupting the regular holding of Term 1 Exam. In such case, Term 1 exam will be held held online or offline from home. However, in such a scenario the weightage of Term 1 Exam in Final Result score will be reduced.

If the Pandemic Affects Term 2 Exams: On similar lines, if the pandemic impacts 2nd half of the academic year leaving the situation not conductive to hold March-April Exam i.e. Term 2 Exams of CBSE Board; CBSE 10th and 12th Results 2021 will be declared on the basis students’ performance in the Term 1 Examination.

If the pandemic affects Term 1 and Term 2 Exams: Showing preparedness for the worst case scenario, in case the pandemic continues for the complete year disrupting the complete academic year, leading to cancellation of Term 1 and Term 2 Exams; the results would be computed on the basis of their marks clubbed with internal assessment subject to the moderation or other measures to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment.
