On Monday, the Delhi State Government authorised the release of funds for paying salaries of the staff of four colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi, fully funded by it. The Government, however, alleged that these colleges made unauthorised hirings and said that the Government is not liable to pay such members from its own funds.
Fund Amount Sanctioned
As per the directives of the Delhi High Court, the State Government was ordered to sanction the funds. In compliance with the directives, the Delhi State government issued a sanction order of Rs 19.4 crores to be disbursed under the salary head and Rs 1.675 crore under the non-salary head. The four colleges for which the funds were sanctioned include Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Bhagini Nivedita College and Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College.
State Education Minister’s Take
Deputy CM and Education Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia had alleged that attendance records for some teachers were not provided by these institutions. According to the Deputy CM auditors visited five colleges — Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Bhagini Nivedita College and Maharishi Valmiki College of Education and they were not provided with teachers’ attendance records. Mr Sisodia said that it raises doubts that teachers had been employed by such colleges on paper in order to extract salaries from the government.
