The Directorate of School Education, Jammu has launched the Tamanna Aptitude Test for the students of the government schools in the region. The aptitude test has been launched to help the students make appropriate academic choices and career-related decisions. The School Education, Jammu Director Anuradha Gupta while speaking to the media stated that the Directorate of School Education, Jammu has initiated the aptitude testing process from Tuesday onwards.
Two day online orientation-cum-training programme
Gupta also stated that the Counselling Cell of the DSEJ conducted a two day online orientation-cum-training programme of the faculty counsellors of the Jammu division from Winter Zone which has 500 faculty counsellors and psychological task force members who were trained for conducting the test on the students. More such sessions will also be conducted before the actual test which will be conducted offline.
Tamanna Test Details
The Try and Measure Aptitude and Natural Abilities (Tamanna) test has been developed for senior school students by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) New Delhi under the Union Ministry of Education. Gupta while explaining the test details stated that the tests contain seven dimensions measured in aptitude testing which include Language Aptitude, Abstract reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Mechanical Reasoning, Numerical reasoning, Perceptual Aptitude and Spatial Aptitude along with technical manual, by which the students from Class 9 and 10 can make a better choice of subjects.
First body to help the students
The officials from the department have stated that the DSEJ has taken the lead by being the first body to help the students take advantage of the Aptitude test. Since the test is in its initial phase the Counselling Cell has been asked to make proper reports after conducting the test so that necessary inputs can be given to the agency concerned for the further standardization if necessary.

DSEJ Counselling Cell head Romesh Sharma on the completion of the two-day programme advised the faculty counsellors to use the aptitude test as a complementary tool for exploring and understanding the abilities of the students.
School Reopening
The Jammu Winter Zone schools will be reopening from March 1, 2021, and the capacity development of the teachers is being done in order to mentor and guide the students. The director stated that in the new session the aptitude test will be used as a tool to facilitate the students for self-awareness, academic choice-making and understanding their aptitude for making good career decisions. The pilot testing of the aptitude test was conducted in the 11 zones of Udhampur district.
