New School Education Secretary: As per latest reports, in a major bureaucratic shuffle, the Central Government has decided to appoint CBSE Chairperson Anita Karwal as the School Education Secretary under the aegis of MHRD. A report by ANI news agency has confirmed the development and said that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairperson Anita Kawal has now been appointed as the as Secretary in the Department of Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The decision about the bureaucratic shuffle was announced by the the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday – 26th April 2020.
Anita Karwal
Ms Anita Karwal is a Karwal is a 1988-batch IAS officer from Gujarat Cadre. She took over the reins of the Central Board of Secondary Education as chairperson from Mr Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi in 2017. She has served as CBSE chairperson for two years and is now being moved to the position of Secretary in the Department of Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development. In her tenure, CBSE has held three Board Exams for 10th and 12th Class students and also organized the CTET in 2017, before the exam was moved under the management of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
During her tenure as the CBSE Chairperson, Ms Kanwar had taken several important steps aimed at well-being of the students including some specific initiatives for academic and holistic development of students. One of her most noteworthy contributions as CBSE Chairperson was start of of mandatory health & physical education programme for the students of class 9 to 12, which had received wide commendation from students, parents and the government.
Prior to CBSE, Ms Karwal has was posted as Additional Secretary in MHRD and has also served as the Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat in 2014.
