ICAI Students Protest: Following the continued protest of CA aspirants and students in the last three days, ICAI has announced that it is planning to from a committee to look into their grievances. The news was confirmed by ICAI president Prafulla Chhajed who on Thursday said that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, is considering forming an independent committee to look into the demands and complaints of the students. Chhajed was addressing a press conference following demand of CA aspirants that ICAI president must address them and the complaints put forth by them.
Committee to Look at Future Roadmap
In addition to looking into the complaints put forth by the students along with their demand for re-evaluation, the independent committee will also look at the future roadmap to be taken by the institute to avoid such instances in future. However, he also confirmed that the formation of the committee is yet at a conceptual level and that the ICAI will make a formal announcement regarding it once it is approved by all council members.
Multiple Level Monitoring in Current System
Addressing the issue of irregularities in re-evaluation of answer books for CA Final, CA Intermediate and CA Foundation Course students for ICAI CA May 2019 Exam, he said that the current evaluation system has multiple level of monitoring to ensure quality of evaluation of answer sheets. Despite this, the ICAI President said that the institute is ready to consider the grievances put forth by the students and address them.
CA aspirants protesting across India
ICAI CA Students Protest started on 23rd September 2019 with a few hundred students protesting outside ICAI Headquarters near ITO in New Delhi. However, soon the protest spread across the country, with students from all across the country protesting against irregularities in evaluation of CA Answer Books for May Exam. Currently, thousands of CA students are protesting at nearly 178 locations across the country against ICAI. Protesting students also got support from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who also backed the ‘justified demand’ of CA aspirants to seek re-evaluation of answer books following irregularities.
