Jammu & Kashmir Winter Vacation 2025: The winter break for schools in the Kashmir division and the Jammu division's winter zones has been extended by the Jammu and Kashmir government till March 6, 2025. The decision was made in reaction to the extremely cold weather that has been occurring in the area. In a formal order announcing the extension, the School Education Department stated that schools will resume on March 7 rather than February 29 as originally planned. Both public and private schools that operate in these locations are covered by the extension.

The main causes of the prolongation, according to authorities, were severe weather and ongoing below-freezing temperatures. According to reports, severe cold and heavy snowfall are still plaguing regions of Jammu and Kashmir, making it unsafe for students to commute. Previously, the winter break was scheduled from December 11, 2024, to February 29, 2025. For the benefit of the students, however, education officials decided to prolong the shutdown due to the awful weather.

JK Students: Impact On Academics

In the meanwhile, school officials have been asked to ensure that academic schedules are not affected. The more extended vacation could be made up for by using virtual classes or other learning strategies. Winters in the Kashmir region are long and chronic, often interfering with daily living and schoolwork. The latest measure seeks to safeguard teachers and students with little impact to the academic program.

The decision has been well received by both parents and children, who highlighted the importance of safety during severe weather. But others also expect that when schools reopen, they will take steps to compensate for missed learning time. Any more modifications to the academic schedule will be announced in accordance with the weather circumstances, which authorities will continue to monitor.
