Karnataka to get New Medical Colleges: Karnataka is all set to get 4 new medical colleges in the state soon. The news regarding setting up of 4 new medical colleges in the state was confirmed by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan. Karnataka Deputy CM also confirmed that the state cabinet has given its assent to the proposal and now the final details are being worked out for the setting up of new medical colleges.

Apart from confirming the news about setting up of new medical colleges, Mr Narayan also confirmed that the new medical colleges will be setup in Chikkamagaluru, Chikkaballapur, Yadagiri and Haveri districts of the state. Apart from this, Deputy CM also confirmed that the proposal for setting up a medical college in Kanakapura has been cancelled. He further added that the decision to scrap medical college in Kanakapura was taken by the Cabinet after thorough consideration of all the viewpoints.

Clears Air About Shifting of Medical College from Kanakapura

He also refuted any speculations about Kanakapura medical college being shifted to Chikkaballapur. He also said that as the college was still in proposal stage; cancellation has not led to any major monetary losses to the government. Earlier, Congress leader DK Shivakumar had objected to Cabinet’s decision to cancel setting up of a medical college in his constituency, Kanakapura. The proposal to setup a medical college in Kanakapura assembly constituency was taken by the earlier Congress-JDS Government.

Medical College at Every Taluka Level

Talking about the state of medical education in Karnataka and the Government’s plan to take it further Karnataka Deputy CM Narayan said that his government is committed to setting up of 1 medical college in each taluka. He also added that before going to taluka level, it is important to strengthen the medical education and healthcare infrastructure at the state-level.
