NEET Impersonation Scam: The Madras High Court has asked the National Testing Agency to share the thumb impressions of all the 4250 students admitted in the state of Tamil Nadu this academic year. This was in continuation of the NEET Impersonation Scam. The court has asked for the details of the thumb impressions to be shared with the CBCIS which is looking into the case. Along with this, the Madras High Court has also noted that facial recognition also has to be implemented for the NEET examinations.
It was in September that the case of a proxy candidate appearing for the original candidates for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test came into sight. After probing, it was found that the student had taken admission in Theni Medical College in Chennai based on the marks scored in the NEET examination by the proxy candidate.
The student in question, Udit Surya, a student at Theni Medical College and his father Sr. Venkatesan who is a casualty medical officer at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai along with a Kerala based agent Rasheed was arrested regarding the case.
High Court Justice Kirubakaran has questioned as to how the authorities have failed to check the face of the students even as they checked the clothes and hair of the candidates. The court has also sought for the centre and state to share the steps to be taken to ensure that the entrance examination which is the largest medical entrance examination in the country to be free and fair. The court has been adjourned for this case and will result after October 24, 2019.
An investigation was ordered after a complaint was registered by Theni Medical College which saw a difference in the photo of a first-year students pasted in the NEET application form and the present appearance of the student.
