TN Online classes guidelines

Tamil Nadu School Education Department has issued guidelines for the online classes in the state. The guidelines have been issued by the state education department keeping in mind the health of the students. Schools in the state have been conducted online classes since March 2020 as the lockdown was imposed across the country causing schools to be shut.

Guidelines issued for online classes

According to the guidelines issued for the online classes, the new guidelines issued by the department restrict the classes to 30 to 45 minutes with a mandatory break of 10 to 15 minutes so that the students can get some rest. 

Tamil Nadu School Education Secretary Dheeraj Kumar stated that according to the order issued by the department for the students from class 9 to 12, the online classes can be conducted for not more than four sessions of 30 to 45 minutes in a day and only two sessions will be conducted in a day food the students from classes 1 to 8.

Classes to span 30 to 45 minutes

According to media reports, no online class will be scheduled for the pr-primary classes however, the online session may be conducted for interacting with the parents and guiding them. These sessions however will not be conducted for more than 30 minutes. 

The guidelines also state that the children exposed to gadgets for a long time are prone to severe health issues and excessive use can be avoided by designing an age-appropriate schedule of digital education. 

Provision for Teachers

Before each session, students will be given five minutes to warm up, exercise, and conduct creative activities as per the directions of the Madras High Court. The students will be under the supervision of the parents before providing gadgets like smartphones, laptops with data connectivity. The government has also fixed a minimum number of classes for the teachers to avoid excess stress. 

As per the provisions mentioned in the guidelines issued, the teachers may take a maximum of six classes a day subject to a maximum of 28 classes in a week. The classes will be conducted from 9 AM to 5 PM during the weekdays while communications regarding the online classes for the assignments will have to be done between 8 AM to 6 PM.
