Telangana Transport Strike: In the wake of the on-going TSRTC strike, Telangana State Government has extended the school holidays for students until 19th October 2019. The decision was announced by the state government which confirmed that schools across the state of Telangana will remain closed for the next week due to the on-going transport strike. Earlier, schools were to reopen on 11th October 2019 after Dusshera holidays. According to tentative estimates, schools in Telangana were givern 10-12 days of holidays during the Dusshera festival. However, this year due to the on-going transport strike, the holidays have been extended beyond 20 days.
Holidays for Government & Private Schools
In addition to announcing holidays for Government School students, the state government has also extended the school holidays for private schools as well. In addition to this, to counter the transport strike, Telangana Government has also declared holidays in aided junior/degree/polytechnic including Engineering, Law, MBA, MCA, Pharmacy and University colleges. However, Medical Colleges, considering the sensitive nature of the healthcare sector, have been asked to remain open to address any medical emergencies arising during this period.
Transport Strike to Continue, says TSRTC Employees
The state-run Telangana State Road Transport Corporation employees announced a state-wide strike in protest against sacking of nearly 50,000 employees of the corporation. The current stand-off going on between the striking employees and the state-government is expected to end any time soon. Looking at this, the state government has decided to declare holidays in Government Schools, Private Schools and Colleges based in the state.
Schools to Cover-up for Holidays in April 2020
In addition to extending the holidays due to transport strike, the government has also announced that schools and other educational institutions will work on all second Saturdays until April 2020 in lieu of the holidays announced now. By working on all second Satrudays of the month, institutions are expected to make up for the lost time without it impacting the academic studies of the students.
