The country has been witnessing some major changes in the education sector. With new education policy to changes in the eligibility to become a teacher, all have been going on ion the list of the changes. In a recent development, the UP CM Yogi Adityanath, has approved that the B.Ed. Degree holders can become PRT in UP. In the Cabinet meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath, an important resolution was passed regarding the recruitment of assistant teachers. For some, the news have brought favour while for some it has not.

In the Cabinet meeting, the amendment was approved in the UP Basic Education Teacher Rules 1981, after which the B.Ed. degree holders of the state's junior basic schools (Class I to V) will now be able to become primary teachers. However, such teachers will have to complete 6 months bridge course in primary education within two years of their appointment in th schools. Till now the holders of B.Ed. degree could apply only if they have qualified the TET or they have a two-year D.El.Ed. (BTC) from the National Council of Education. Now, the ordinary B.Ed. degree holder can also apply for assistant teacher post.

With the amendment in the rules, some sections of the students are not happy. There have been mixed reactions from the students over this decision. In a court case for the recruitment of 69000 teachers, the petitioner Shivendra said that he has no problem with this decision of the government. The petitioner said that the BTC holders have been alleged that they are afraid of the challenge. However, if the government has decided to equalise B.Ed. to BTC then they have no objection. The petitioner also demanded for an opportunity for the BTC holders in LT grade and TGT recruitment. He also said that there will be same process for BTC as that of the B.Ed. holders who have been given chance to become PRT.
