Ahmedabad Traffic Police to run Police Pathshalas to teach street children on footpaths

Ahmedabad Traffic Police has launched a unique initiative ‘Police Pathsahala’ to help street children of the city. As part of this initiative, Traffic Cops from Ahmedabad Traffic Police Department will provide free education to the street children living on the streets in the city. The programme is targeted at children who live on footpaths and are unable to join any formal education system due to the responsibility of doing odd jobs for livelihood.

Why Police Pathshala?

Commenting on the initiative, Ahmedabad Traffic DCP Ankit Patel said that the key motive behind starting Police Pathshala was to education street children and help them live a good life. He further added that children living on street often get involved in crime and criminal activities. By participating in Police Pathshalas, these kids will be provided basic education and will also stay away from such criminal activities. Mr Patel also added that after being provided basic education at the Police Pathshalas, the children will be enrolled into regular schools.

Where to find a Police Pathsahala?

The Police Pathshala initiative was launched by Ahmedabad Traffic Police around a year and a half ago with an aim to bring change into the life of children who live on streets. As part of the initiative, Ahmedabad Traffic Police is currently running three education centres in the city falling under the jurisdiction of three traffic police chowkis i.e. Pakwan Area Traffic Police Chowki, Danilimda Traffic Police Chowki and Kankaria Police Chowki.

Free Travel and Lunch

In addition to providing free education to the street children, the students visiting Police Pathshalas are also provided free transportation of commutation facilities. Cycle Rickshaws have been roped in by the Ahmedabad traffic police to help students commute to the Pathshala. In addition to travel facilities, students are also provided food and snacks during lunch hours.
