Gauhati University: As per the recent updates, Gauhati University has suspended offline classes till 19th December 2021. This decision has been taken after the University reported cases of COVID-19 amongst hostel dwellers. The cases were reported after the screening was undertaken by the government of Assam for the last 7 days.
Thus, owing to the prevailing situation, as per the official notice released by Gauhati University, both hostels and physical classes have been suspended by the varsity. Further, as per the notice issued, the entry of outsiders would be suspended during this period.
Directive Issued by Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University
As per the directive issued by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of GU, the cultural night that was supposed to take place on 14th December 2021, has been cancelled. The 'Talent Search Competition' was supposed to take place on a cultural night. It was being organized by the Post Graduate Students Union. As of now, there has been no reportage of cases of Omcron in the state.
Guidelines Released by Gauhati University's Registrar
As per the guidelines issued by the Registrar, the office would also run with minimum functioning. Further, all stakeholders should be following proper COVID-19 guidelines such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, using hand sanitizer, and other guidelines to mitigate the spread of the virus. Entry of outsiders shall remain prohibited during the period. The offices shall run with minimum functioning.
COVID-19 Cases in Assam
As per the media reports, the total number of active cases of COVID-19 in Assam is 2469 cases. The active ratio due to COVID-19 in the state is 0.40%. Further, the death ratio due to COVID-19 in the state is 0.99%. As of now, there has been no reportage of cases of Omcron in the state.

On the first session of day 1 of the final placement season at IIT Guwahati’s campus placements, the 2021-22 batch students have received more than 200 offers. About 38 companies participated in the IIT Guwahati placement drive for phase 1, which is expected to continue till 15th December.
