
The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) - a joint initiative of IITs and IISc has started the applications for the courses in January 2022 Semester. NPTEl offered 593 courses across engineering, sciences, management, humanities, and social sciences through the SWAYAM portal.
Candidates interested in enrolling in the various courses can visit the official SWAYAM portal to complete the registrations. According to the schedule given, the last date for students to complete the application process is January 31, 2022.
Popular courses
A few of the popular courses offered include Data Science for Engineers, Electrical Vehicles, programming courses including Python, Java, C, and C++. A few new courses included for January 2022 include Hindustani Music, Multidisciplinary Courses including Research Methodology for students in Research, Basic Course in Ornithology, Oral Biology for Dental students, Blockchain and its applications, and Online privacy. Introduction to Machine LEarning courses is also offered in Tamil and Signals and System courses are offered in Hindi this semester.
Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator, NPTEL-IIT Madras when emphasized on increasing the popularity of the courses and the NPTEL YouTube Channel with more than 52,402 hours of video content and 3.7 million subscribers stated that in a world dominated by digital technology, online education has gained popularity in recent years. He further added that given the greater need for virtual communication amidst the ongoing pandemic, NPTEL has become a pillar of the open education community along with a renewed emphasis on skill development. He also stated that it is an invaluable resource to millions of learners around the world.
IIT Madras officials have stated that over the years more than 1 Crore learner have enrolled in NPTEL courses and the optional proctored certification exam can be taken by learners for a minimal fee to earn certificates from IITs. the officials further added that the learners have to be present in person for the exams. There are more than 150 exam centre cities across India at present.
