The results of the Presidency University’s student union polls were declared on Thursday. The CPI (M) backed Students’ Federation of India landed a major victory by bagging all the four posts. SFI landed such a victory after a gap of nine long years. The students’ union elections were conducted university after 3 years. SFI won the posts of president, vice-president, general secretary, assistant general secretary in the election.
The Students' Federation of India (SFI) won the president's post with 1,085 votes, as opposed to 163 secured by the Independent Consolidation. For the vice president's post, the SFI won by a margin of 359 votes against Independent question which had gotten 640 votes. The SFI got 840 votes for the post of the general secretary, as opposed the 574 secured by the IC. For the post of the assistant general secretary as well, SFI won by a huge margin.
A majority of the class representative seats were also bagged by the SFI. An official statement by the part read that they have been able to defeat 'reactionary forces' like the ABVP, the Trinamool Chatra Parishad and their agents by a clear margin. In addition, it also said that the huge victory in the central panel and the single-handed majority in class representatives are proof that the students’ community believes in and stands tall with the SFI. Students’ elections in the state were put on hold for nearly about 3 years. In the month of October, state government issued a notification stating that the universities and colleges can now conduct elections, following which the polls were conducted at the prestigious university.
