CBSE Class 10 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme 2025: The exam pattern and marking scheme of a subject are important for students as they help them understand the structure of the question paper. The exam pattern acts as a guide for students, providing a clear overview of the chapters that are covered. The question paper is usually divided into multiple sections, with each section designed to test knowledge of a concept. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to conduct the Class 10 Board examination for the academic session 2024-25 from February 15, 2025. 

With the exam time approaching fast, students must create a study plan and prepare in an effective manner. They should give importance to all topics and save ample time for revision. Students must be familiar with the exam pattern and marking scheme for subjects. This will help them understand the weightage of marks and the typology of questions. Thus students can prioritise high marks topics.

CBSE Class 10 Social Science Exam Pattern 2025

The CBSE Class 10 Social Science question paper will have six sections: Section A,B,C, D, E and F. There will be 37 questions in the paper. Check the CBSE Class 10 Social Science Exam Pattern below.

Section A 

1. Type: Multiple choice questions

2. Questions: 1-20

3. Marks per question: 1 mark each

These questions will test students’ knowledge and understanding of concepts. Students will have to choose the right answer out of four options. 

Section B

1. Type: Very Short Answer type questions

2. Questions: 21-24

3. Marks per question: 2 marks each

In this section students’ ability to write and explain answers will be tested. Students will be required to answer the questions in a limited word count (40 words).

Section C

1. Type: Short Answer type questions

2. Questions: 25-29

3. Marks per question: 3 marks each

In Section-C, students’ ability to write and explain answers will be tested. Students will be required to answer the questions in a limited word count (60 words).

Section D

1. Type: Long Answer type questions

2. Questions: 30-33

3. Marks per question: 5 marks each

These questions demand in-depth understanding of topics. Students will have to provide elaborate responses for these questions. Answers should not exceed 120 words. 

Section E

1. Type: Case based questions with three sub questions

2. Questions: 34-36

3. Marks per question: 4 marks each

In this section, case based questions with three sub questions. Answer to each question should not exceed 100 words. 

Section F

1. Type: Map based 

2. Questions: 37

3. Marks per question: 5 marks

This question carries 5 marks with two parts, 37a from History (2 marks) and 37b from Geography (3 marks). 

Internal choice

There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been provided in few questions. Only one of the choices in such questions must be attempted.

Additional instructions

A separate question has been provided for visually impaired candidates in lieu of questions having visual inputs, maps etc. Such questions are to be attempted by Visually impaired students only. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever necessary.

Remembering and Understanding: Exhibiting memory of previously learned material by recalling facts, terms, basic concepts, and answers; Demonstrating understanding of facts and ideas by organizing, translating, interpreting, giving descriptions and stating main ideas. 24 30%
Applying: Solving problems to new situations by applying acquired knowledge, facts, techniques and rules in a different way. 11 13.25%

Formulating, Analysing, Evaluating and Creating: Examining and breaking information into parts by identifying motives or causes; Making inferences and finding evidence to support generalizations; Presenting and defending opinions by making judgments about information, validity of ideas, or quality of work based on a set of criteria;

Compiling information together in a different way by combining elements in a new pattern or proposing alternative solutions.
