RRB ALP/Technician exam began today (will continue till 31 August) and was held in three shifts. The computer-based online exam for the recruitment of ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) & Technician posts was conducted at 440 centres across 166 cities. Today was the first day of the exam. Other dates for these exams are 10th, 13th, 14th, 17th, 20th, 21st, 29th, 30th and 31st August 2018. As per reports, 74% of the registered candidates appeared for the exam.

Exam Pattern: First Stage (Prelims)

75 questions were asked in the computer based online test. Candidates had 60 minutes to solve all the questions (80 minutes for eligible PWD candidates accompanied with scribe). Detailed breakup for each section of the computer based online test is given below

Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

General Science

The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level.

General awareness on current affairs

Recent news in the field of Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and other subjects of importance.

Some important points:

• There is a provision of negative marking in the test.

• For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, 1/3rd of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

• The first stage test is qualifying in nature

• Marks of First Stage CBT will not be included in the final merit list.

• Short listing of Candidates for the Second Stage CBT exam shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in the First Stage CBT Exam.

• Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for second stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of ALP and Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT. However, Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit in total or for any specific trade(s) as required ensuring availability of adequate candidates for all the notified posts
