Study Material on Quantitative Aptitude for SSC Stenographers Exam 2012:Percentage

Shweta Shrivastava, an expert at jagranjosh has explained the concept of Percentage with the help of an example to tutor aspirants preparing for SSC Stenographers (Grade 'C' and 'D') Exam 2012.

Staff Selection Commission notified Stenographers (Grade ‘C' & ‘D') Examination on 28 May 2012.The written examination for the recruitment of Stenographers post in various offices under Central Government will be held on 29 July 2012. The basic requirement for this All India Open Examination is to complete the 12th exam from a recognized Board or university.The examination will consist of a written examination (objective type) and skill test in stenography. Candidates will be shortlisted for the skill test on the basis of their performance in the Written Examination. Candidates who qualify in the skill test will be recommended for appointment by the Commission on the basis of their performance in the Written Examination.

Students will be questioned on:

Part I: General Intelligence & Reasoning ( 50 questions )
Part II: General Awareness ( 50 questions )
Part III: English Language and Comprehension ( 100 questions )
Total Duration/ Timing for General candidates is 2 hours (10 am to 12 noon); 2 hours 40 minutes (10 am to 12.40 pm) for Visually Handicapped candidates.


Note: There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.


Quantitative Segment Questions are framed to test how capable are the aspirants in appropriately using numbers. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions & relationships between numbers; percentage & ratio, time & distance; profit, loss & discount; graphs of linear equations; basic algebraic identities; pie chart; trigonometric ratio, geometry etc.

In mathematics, a percentage is a way of expressing a number like Ratio, as a fraction of 100. It is denoted by the symbol “%”. Percentages are used to express how large/small one quantity is, relative to another quantity. The percent value is computed by multiplying the numeric value of the ratio by 100
