Delhi state government has allowed the Delhi Education Board also known as the Delhi Board of School Education by which Delhi will now be getting its own school, education board. The majority of the schools in the capital are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education and with the new board, the state Chief Minister aims to bring all the schools in Delhi under its range.

Delhi Education Board important points

According to the details provided, the Delhi cabinet has given permission and the new board will be brought into effect from the academic session of 2021-22. The governing body of the Delhi Board of School Education will be chaired by the education minister and the board will also have an executive body to be managed by a CEO.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal stated that the focus of the new board will be conceptual learning and personality development beginning with 20-25 government schools which will be affiliated to CBSE from 2021-22 academic sessions. The remaining schools which include 1000 government schools and 1700 private schools in the capital will be affiliated to the board in the next 4 to 5 years.

In July 2020 Delhi Government constituted two committees to prepare the scheme and framework for the formation of the state education board and curriculum. The top schools in Delhi have however not responded to the decision yet and it may be noted that the private schools have the freedom to choose the board it wishes to be affiliated with.

KV to follow under CBSE

The government has also announced that the Kendriya Vidyalayas will continue to remain affiliated with the CBSE. The Delhi government schools are also expected to be affiliated with the board over the next two years although the exact timeline has not been shared.

The government has assured that the new board does not impact schools affiliated to the CBSE in the NCR Region of Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad.

Although the move has been appreciated by the school principals, many have questioned the move of setting up a new education board as most of the schools in the capital are affiliated to CBSE and parents are questioning if the top private schools will also be shifting to the newly formed board.
