Delhi government asks officials not bring in teachers for field work other than COVID duty

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has announced that the teachers from Delhi Government schools will not be considered for any administrative duty since the schools have reopened for the students from Classes 10 and 12. According to an official order issued the teachers from Delhi Government schools have been at the forefront of the COVID-19 related duties since the lockdown in March 2020. 

He added that the teachers have been providing their services whenever the District Administration has asked for further stating that currently the teachers have been involved in the door-to-door survey, enforcement of COVID-19 protocol, and the screenings at the airport while some have also been engaged in activities related to COVID-19 vaccination trials.

COVID Duty is a collective responsibility

The Education Minister also pointed out that due to the unexpected nature of the pandemic it has been the collective responsibility of every official from the Delhi Government which includes teachers to work under the COVID-19 emergency situation. Considering the board examinations scheduled to be conducted soon, the Delhi Government has decided to commence special classes, practical exams, pre-board exams for class 10 and 12 students from today - January 18, 2021.

The Deputy CM who is also the Education Minister of Delhi has stated that discretion is necessary in order to ask for services of teachers so that the educational activities which the teachers are required to do are not disrupted.

Teachers provide continuous online support

He pointed out that the teachers are providing online support to the students from KG to class 12 along with engaging with parents on a regular basis and so it is important that the teachers are not summoned for the services so that the learning activities are not disrupted. The minister also pointed out that the district authorities have been calling specific teachers, Vice Principals and Principles of the Directorate of Education directly without any consultation with the Directorate a considering the emergency duties and the education the district officials have been directed not to call for any teacher for administrative or fieldwork other than COVID-19 related duties.
