What is IBPS PO Syllabus?

IBPS PO syllabus 2023 is crucial for every banking aspirant who will be appearing for the IBPS PO exam 2023. The syllabus for IBPS exam is notified by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection in its notification and is composed of three stages: Prelims, Mains and Interview. 

The IBPS syllabus for Prelims comprises the English Language, Quantitative Ability, and Reasoning Ability. Those who qualify the Prelims exam are called to appear for the Mains exam. The IBPS PO Mains syllabus covers the topics of Reasoning Ability, Computer Aptitude, English Language, Data Interpretation and Analysis, General economy, and Banking Awareness. IBPS PO Exam Pattern

Before we proceed to the IBPS PO syllabus, it is important to have a brief understanding of the IBPS PO exam pattern for Prelims and Mains. Candidates who obtain the IBPS PO cut off marks in Prelims will be allowed to appear for the Mains exam. To begin with, both papers will be held in online mode. The Prelims shall have 100 objective questions while the Mains shall be a combination of objective and subjective questions. There shall be a total of 100 questions in IBPS PO Prelims while the Mains shall have 157 questions. A negative marking of 0.25 is applicable to both IBPS PO Prelims and Mains exams.

IBPS PO Mains Syllabus 2023

The candidates who qualify the IBPS PO Prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the Mains exam. The IBPS PO Mains syllabus is similar to that of Prelims, however, there is an addition of the General Awareness and Computer Aptitude syllabus as well. Furthermore, the difficulty level of the questions asked in the IBPS PO Mains shall be more difficult than the Prelims. The IBPS PO Mains syllabus is also composed of a descriptive test. The IBPS PO Computer Aptitude syllabus aims to test the candidate’s basic knowledge of computers. He/She will be tested on his knowledge of computer shortcut keys, important abbreviations used in computer, operating system, MS Office, etc.

IBPS PO General Awareness Syllabus

IBPS PO General Awareness syllabus shall include topics from Current affairs, GK, important days and dates, banking and financial awareness, RBI policies, important circulars/notices released by the RBI, etc. 

To prepare the General Awareness syllabus for IBPS PO, one should read monthly GK magazines, newspapers, etc. 

IBPS PO Syllabus 2023 for Descriptive Test

The candidates who appear for the IBPS PO Mains exam will also have to take the descriptive test that shall be held on the same day. The candidates are asked to write an essay and letter on the topics provided by the IBPS. The test has to be typed on the computer. The letter writing could be formal or informal. It is advisable to practice essay writing and letter writing on a computer. 

IBPS PO Merit List/Provisional Allotment 

For the final merit list or the IBPS PO Provisional Allotment, the marks obtained in IBPS PO Mains and Interview will be considered. The weightage of the marks of the Mains Exam and Interview will be 80:20 respectively.

IBPS PO Interview

The candidates who qualify the IBPS PO Mains exam are called to appear for the IBPS PO interview. The interview forms a crucial part of the candidate’s IBPS PO exam 2023. Marks secured by candidates in the Mains and interview will be used to determine the merit list for final selection of the candidates for the post of IBPS PO.
