CLAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

CLAT 2024 exam is being conducted by the Consortium of the National Law Universities of India. To be able to apply for CLAT exam 2024, candidates have to fulfil the following mentioned parameters:

  • CLAT Age Limit
  • CLAT Educational Qualification
  • Minimum Percentage required to appear for CLAT exam

The CLAT exam is conducted on an annual basis for admission to the various undergraduate and postgraduate level. CLAT is a law entrance exam for which thousands of candidates apply to get admission in the top NLUs of India as well as other law colleges in India that accept the CLAT exam marks.

CLAT 2024 Age Limit

As per revised rules, there is no upper age limit for the CLAT exam. Hence, candidate belonging to any age group is eligible to appear for the CLAT exam. 

CLAT Eligibility 2024 Educational Qualification

The educational qualification needed to appear for CLAT exam consists of the following: 

  • Candidate must have passed 10+2 or any equivalent examination.
  • Candidates appearing in their qualifying examination in April/May 2024 are also eligible to appear in CLAT exam. Such candidates will, however, need to produce evidence of their passing in the examination at the time of admission. 
  • Candidates should have passed their Class 12th Board Examination (or Senior Secondary School Examination) from any recognised educational board.
  • Candidates need to score at least 45% marks in their qualifying degree to appear in the CLAT 2024. For the candidates belonging to SC and ST categories need to score at least 40 percent marks in the aggregate of subjects.

 

CLAT 2024 Number of Attempts Allowed

There is no age limit for CLAT exam so a person can sit for any number of attempts in this exam. This means a person is allowed to write as many attempts as he/ she wants to write. The Supreme Court has given a free hand to all the candidates in this regard.

Can Final Year Students Apply for CLAT Exam?

Students who will be appearing for their class 12th board exam 2024 are also eligible to apply for CLAT 2024. However, such students must provide proof of passing the board exam at the time of admission process.

Question: Has CLAT eligibility criteria changed?

Answer: Yes, the CLAT eligibility criteria was changes some year ago after the Supreme Court order on BCI's age cap. According to the revised eligibility criteria of CLAT 2024, candidates irrespective of their age limit can apply for the NLUs admission test. Earlier, the Bar Council of India (BCI) had put an age bar, following which candidates attaining an age of 20 years or less as on the date of admission year, could only apply for the national-level law entrance exam for undergraduate programmes and those belonging to SC, ST, Other Backward Classes, and Specially-Abled Persons (SAP) were given an upper age relaxation of 2 years, i.e., 22 years of age as on the same date for being considered eligible for CLAT.

Question: Is there any arrangement for Specially-Abled Persons (SAPs)?

Answer: Yes, the specially-abled persons can opt either to arrange for his/ her own scribe or to make request to the CLAT office to provide one for them. In case of the first option, candidates will need to download the scribe declaration form at the time of filling CLAT 2024 application. Moreover, the SAPs will be entitled to a compensatory time of 40 minutes.
