CLAT exam pattern 2025 is released by the Consortium of National Law Universities for the undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes in the 22 NLUs of the country. CLAT exam pattern 2025 has been shared here for the undergraduate courses. The exam is aimed to focus on the comprehension, reasoning and analytical skills of the candidates. The test is designed to test the aptitude and skills of the candidates that is needed for a legal education. CLAT exam is composed of five subjects for a total of 120 marks spanning for 2 Hours duration. Each question is for 1 mark with a negative marking of 0.25 for every incorrect answer marked by the candidate.

CLAT exam is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities for undergraduate admissions to the NLUs of the country. The main aim of the CLAT UG exam is to test the candidate’s comprehension, reasoning skills and abilities, and aptitude. The major highlights of CLAT exam pattern are as follows. Passage-based Questions Except for the Quantitative Techniques section, the other four sections (English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning) will contain passage-based questions. Each passage will be around 450 words in English, Current Affairs, and Legal Reasoning sections. In Logical Reasoning, passages will be 350 words.
Quantitative Techniques This section will consist of short sets of facts, graphs, and pictorial representations. Candidates must analyze and interpret these to derive answers. Questions will be based on Class 10-level difficulty.
Total Questions The CLAT UG exam will contain 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
Marking Scheme Each question will carry 1 mark.
Negative Marking 0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
Total Marks The exam is conducted for 120 marks in total.
Exam Difficulty Level The overall difficulty level of the exam will be of Class 12. The Quantitative Techniques section will have questions of Class 10-level difficulty.

CLAT 2025 Exam Pattern: Marking Scheme

The Consortium has made changes to the CLAT exam pattern. The marking scheme has remained the same as in previous years. For each correct answer, candidates will be awarded 1 mark while for each incorrect answer, 0.25 mark will be deducted. No marks will be awarded for unattempted questions.
