MAT September 2019: Management Aptitude Test (MAT)- MBA entrance exam is held 4 times in a year in the months of February, May, September and December. The test is conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA).The management entrance test is delivered in both paper-based and computer-based format. A candidate can choose either of the mode or can appear for both. However, the candidate will have to pay application fee for both the test formats. Every year over 20,000 candidates appear for the entrance exam. Candidates must note that AIMA doesn’t hold any centralised counselling round for MAT qualifiers. The selection process varies with the admission procedures of colleges accepting MAT score. While some colleges offer admission to candidates on the basis of MAT score, other colleges accept candidates on the basis of MAT score along-with their own pre-admission test that include Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT).
MAT 2019 – Step-wise Selection Process
The selection procedure in MAT differs from college to college. Some MAT accepting colleges have an offline admission process while other follows online registration process. Candidates who have appeared for MAT should follow the below mentioned steps to take admission in one of the colleges accepting MAT Score:
- Make a list of colleges accepting MAT Score and chose the preferred colleges
- Apply to those respective management colleges by sending the MAT Scorecard
- The institutes will release the merit list and inform the selected candidates through e-mail or call letter

MAT 2019 Cutoff
Once the MAT Results are declared, colleges accepting MAT Score will individually release their own category-wise cutoff list. More than 600 colleges including University B-Schools offering MBA Degree, Autonomous Colleges and Private PGDM Colleges in India admit students to MBA/PGDM Programs on the basis of MAT Scores.
Candidates can apply to different MBA colleges after the MAT Results are out. It is to note that every college has its own MAT Cutoff range, however, the top MBA colleges accepting MAT score will touch 95 percentile (600-700 composite scores) cutoff mark.
The several factors that determine the cutoff of MBA colleges accepting MAT Score are No. of seats available in that respective institute, difficulty level of the written exam conducted by the institute and No. of students applied for admission.

MAT 2019 Admission Process – Selection Criteria
Every MBA college (accepting MAT Score) releases its separate cutoff list and admission process. At the time of applying for MAT, candidates must select the code of their desired college carefully. In addition, candidates will have to apply for that respective college separately.
The selection process starts after the MAT Result is declared, which is supposed to be announced after September. After the results are out, every participating college releases their own cutoff marks. Shortlisted candidates on the basis of MAT Score are called to take the internal exam of the respective college that include Written Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Some of the colleges may conduct all the three rounds before announcing the final selection and some might conduct only GD/WAT and PI.
Depending upon the admission process of colleges, some of them give more weightage to Written Ability Test over Group Discussion while some prefer Personal Interview over GD and WAT. The skills required to crack the WAT, GD and PI rounds of a respective college are as follows:
