The National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the JEE Main Exam Pattern 2025 along with the official notification. The NTA has, however, released a notice citing the new JEE Main exam pattern 2025. This year, it has made several changes in the exam pattern in terms of number of questions asked in the exam. The number of questions asked in the JEE Main Paper 1 and 2 have been reduced this year onwards. JEE Main Exam Pattern 2025
JEE Main exam pattern 2025 has been modified by the National Testing Agency as per the notice release on 17th October 2025. The changes have been made in all three papers, i.e. Paper 1 (BE/BTech), Paper 2A (BArch) and Paper 2B (BPlan). According to the new exam pattern of JEE Main exam, there will be no optional questions in section B of the exam. There will be only five (5) questions per subject and the students will be required to answer all the five questions asked in the exam. The same goes for the JEE Main Paper 2A and 2 B, there will be no optional questions in the Maths section.
The JEE Main exam is an engineering entrance exam that consists of three papers, Paper 1 for BTech/BE Paper 2A for BArch and 2B for BPlan. JEE Main exam for BE/BTech courses have a total of 75 MCQs carrying 300 marks. The exam is conducted online in 13 languages - Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu in addition to Hindi, English, and Gujarati. The JEE Main 2025 notification is yet to be released by the NTA. It is expected that the JEE Main exam date shall be announced anytime soon by the NTA before the notification is released.

JEE Main New Exam Pattern Notice
The JEE Main 2025 exam pattern has undergone change this year. The changes have been made from this year onwards. In 2021, the NTA had addedthe extra questions to address the academic challenges faced during the COVID 19 pandemic. In the last four editions of the JEE Main exam, the question papers had a total of 90 questions – 20 each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in section A and 10 each from the three subjects in section B. Candidates had to attempt five questions each from the three subjects in section B. However, from 2025 onwards, NTA will follow the old pattern of JEE Mains where Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will have 25 questions each.
The official statement issued by the NTA on its website nta.ac.in, the following statement mentions:
“Since the declaration of UN World Health Organization (WHO) on COVID-19 as an end of Public health emergency on 05 May 2023, it has been decided to discontinue the optional selection of questions. The examination structure would return to its original format, where Section B will contain only 5 (five) questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 (five) questions, without any options for selection in JEE (Main) 2025 for Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech), Paper 2 A (B Arch) and Paper 2 B (B Planning)'.

JEE Main 2025 Marking Scheme for BE/BTech & BArch/BPlan
The marking scheme for JEE Main BE/BTech, BArch, and BPlan programs are similar in structure, with 4 marks awarded for each correct answer and a 1-mark deduction for each incorrect answer. No marks are deducted for un-attempted questions.
For BE/BTech, the exam consists of 25 questions each in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, totalling 300 marks. The BArch exam includes 25 Mathematics questions, 50 Aptitude Test questions, and 2 Drawing Test questions, for a total of 400 marks. The BPlan exam features 25 Mathematics questions, 50 Aptitude Test questions, and 25 Planning-based questions, also totaling 400 marks.

JEE Main Exam Medium
JEE Main 2025 Exam will be conducted in Hindi, English, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Telugu, Tamil and Urdu. Candidates filling JEE Main Application Form 2025 must know that the option of language for question paper must exercised while filling up the Application Form online and they will not be able to change it at a later stage. It must be noted that the correctness of the questions in all the question papers, the English version will be taken as final.
