    XAT 2018 syllabus is one of the key things that will help MBA aspirants taking up the MBA entrance test to crack the exam. The XAT exam syllabus is not officially released by the exam conducting body i.e. Xavier Association of Management Institutes / XAMI or the Xavier Labour Relations Institute / XLRI. However, MBA gurus and experts have come-up with extensive XAT 2019 syllabus, on the basis of the type, style and format of the questions that were asked in the previous year’s question papers.

    XAT 2019 syllabus as per exam pattern

    After thorough analysis of the XAT exam papers and the type of questions being asked in those, experts have created a basic syllabus for the exam. Moreover, the XAT exam syllabus also heavily depends upon the exam pattern and style. Currently, the XAT MBA entrance test patter is as follows:

     P.S.: The no of questions asked in each question is likely to vary each year. The aforementioned number is mere estimation based upon the previous year’s papers.

    The XAT 2019 exam syllabus would consist of five key sections i.e. Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Verbal and logical reasoning, decision making, general knowledge and essay writing. The exam would consist of questions from all the five sections and therefore, understanding of XAT exam pattern and XAT exam syllabus is pivotal when it comes to cracking the test.

    XAT Syllabus 2019 – Section-wise breakup

    As discussed above, XLRI doesn’t release the official XAT exam syllabus for the MBA entrance test. However, based upon the experience of past years, experts have defined that questions in XAT exam generally tend to come from specific topics. The same have been discussed section-wise in the below-given article:

    Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation

    Quant and DI together form the key section through which XAT aspirants can score good marks in the MBA entrance test. Syllabus or topics covered under this section include:

    • Arithmetic: Equations, Time & Distance, Percentage, Time & Work, Profit & Loss, etc.
    • Algebra / Pure Math: Polynomials, Probability, Trigonometry, Numbers, Geometry, Venn Diagram, Progressions, Mensuration, Miscellaneous, Permutation & Combination, Functions & Graphs, etc.
    • Data Interpretation: Data Sufficiency, Bar Charts, Scatter Plots, Table, etc.

    Verbal & Logical Reasoning

    Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning is a section that tests the analytical skills of the candidates. Of the total 72 questions, candidates can expect around 24-25 question form Verbal & Logical Reasoning section. As per the past trends, the section difficulty level tends to be moderate to difficult.

    Reading Comprehension

    Analogy based on vocabulary

    Sentence correction

    Fill in the blanks

    Para Completion

    Para Jumble

    Vocabulary

    Pronunciation

    Critical Reasoning/Inference

    Grammar

    Cloze test

    Paragraph Formation Questions

    Poem, etc

    Decision Making

    Decision Making is another key section in the XAT exam pattern and the questions are generally asked in the form of caselets. The question format generally tends to focus around decision making, in which candidates are provided with a problem and they have to pick the most viable solution for it. XAT Test-takers can expect questions in this section on topics like:

    • Arithmetic
    • Analytical Reasoning
    • Situational Decision Making

    General Knowledge

    General Knowledge is a very vast section and covering it in its entirety is nearly impossible. Therefore, MBA aspirants have to adopt a tactical approach for handling the GK section of Paper 2 of XAT 2019 exam. The section consists of General Knowledge questions that range from both, static GK as well as current affairs or on-going events.     Essay writing is the section that holds the key to cracking the XAT MBA entrance test. This section is aimed at checking the language skills and general awareness of the candidates along with the assessment of opinions and thought process of the candidate. There is no specific XAT syllabus for Essay Writing section. The essay topics given to candidates tend to be varied in nature, while some are from current affairs or burning topics that face our society, others are more about extracting an opinion form the students. The only way to crack this section is by reading a lot, including newspapers, magazines and generic content.
