JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2025
IIT Kanpur has released the updated JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria on its website. A new circular has been released on November 18, 2024 regarding the number of attempts. As per the notice released, JAB has decided to roll back the number of attempts to appear for JEE Advanced exam to two times in two consecutive years. Prior to this, the number of attempts was thrice in three consecutive years.

However, as per the latest notice, the JEE Advanced number of attempts has been rolled back to the previously followed criteria which is twice in two consecutive years. This has been done after taking into consideration various requirements in the meeting of JAB held on November 15, 2024. Other JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria Remain Unchanged
Candidates would note that only the JEE Advanced number of attempts have been changed, other than this, the eligibility criteria remain the same. We have listed the other eligibility criteria that have been remained unchanged for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam below.
- Candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates of JEE Main exam.
- Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.
- A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
- A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT under any academic program that is listed in JoSAA Business Rules of 2025.
- Candidates whose admission to IITs was cancelled (for whatever reason) after joining any IIT are also NOT eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.
JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2025: Age Limit, Qualification, Nationality
The JEE Advanced exam is one of the toughest engineering exams which is held in India. The candidates who will be taking the JEE Advanced 2025 exam should check the age limit, educational qualification, percentage required, etc. Candidates must have secured at least 75% aggregate in Class 12th or in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective class 12 examination. IIT Kanpur will be releasing the JEE Advanced exam date as well as other important dates on its website soon.
Criteria 1: Performance in JEE Main 2025
1. The candidate must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all the categories) in B.E/B.Tech paper of JEE Main 2025.

Criterion 2- Age Limit
Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years of age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, ie, these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.

Criterion 3- Number of Attempts
The candidate can attempt JEE Advanced Exam a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
Criterion 4- Appearance in Class 12th Examination
The candidate applying for JEE Advanced Exam 2025 must have appeared for the Class 12th exam or equivalent for the first time in either 2024 or 2025 with the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Those who appeared in Class 12th exam for the first time in 2023 or earlier will NOT be eligible to appear for IIT JEE Advanced.
Criterion 5: Earlier Admissions to IITs
1. The candidate applying for JEE Advanced Exam must not have been admitted to an IIT irrespective of whether or not they continued in the program or accepted an IIT seat by reporting online in the past.
2. The candidates who were allocated a seat in an IIT through JoSAA 2024 but
(i) did not report “online” / at any “reporting centre” OR,
(ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR,
(iii) had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment for IITs, are eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.

JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2025 for Foreign Candidates
1. To apply for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates who are not citizens of India (by birth or naturalized) and/or are PIO/OCI cardholders will be treated as Foreign Nationals.
2. The Foreign Nationals applying for JEE Advanced Exam who are studying or have studied ABROAD at 10+2 level or equivalent at the time of the registration for JEE (Advanced) 2025, will not be required to write JEE Mains 2025. They can register for JEE Advanced directly if they fulfill the other required criteria.
3. The Foreign National Candidates who have studied or are studying in India at 10+2 or equivalent will be required to appear for JEE Mains 2025 exam and qualify JEE Advanced 2025 under the OPEN Category. All the eligibility criteria will be applied to such candidates.
4. All the Foreign Nationals appearing for the exam will be considered in addition to, and not as part of the 2,50,000 Indian National Candidates who will qualify to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
